Celebrating Children 2021-2022 - Nursery: Orange Class - Mrs Granger
Sum 22: Ladybirds
Hello everyone, hope you all had a good break. This week we have been hearing the story 'What the Ladybird Heard' written by Julia Donaldson. The children have also been learning about the life cycle of ladybirds. The children may tell you what they have learned. We have been doing some Maths activities related to ladybirds too. One activity involves a game where the children have to count spots on some ladybirds and find the matching numeral. This is being done on my 'Interactive Whiteboard'.
Another Maths activity that Miss Newton has been doing, is to get the children to paint their own ladybirds and make 'ladybird doubles'. The children have rolled a die, counted the spots and painted that amount on one side of the ladybird. Then, they 'double' it, by painting the same amount on the other side too. Each ladybird then makes a 'double' sum e.g. double 2, double 4, double 5 etc. so, the children can work out the answers by counting all the spots!
In the garden, the children have started to look for ladybird eggs, ladybird larvae and ladybirds themselves. So, they may also want to look for them on the way home, in the park or in your gardens, if you have them. Here are a few pictures to show you what we have been doing.
