BLP - Building Learning Power
Introduction Why BLP? The Learning Muscles

Introduction

Welcome to the BLP section of the Red Oaks website.
Use the tabs above to find out what BLP is all about and how parents, teachers and children can all work together to successfully develop Building Learning Power throughout the school!!

Red Oaks is a BLP (Building Learning Power) school. Teaching the children how to use these “learning muscles” is so important if we want them to thrive and to become independent learners whether it is in school, out of school or in their later lives.

4Rs and Learning Muscles:
Each Phase discreetly teaches, models and rewards examples of the following focus muscles. Class assembly time is used for this as well as termly House assemblies. Every learning space has a BLP poster with the relevant focus muscles starred.

The year 5s really persevered to create these photos using perspective. They used their imaginations to alter the colouring and really capitalised on the resources and time that they had.

Autumn 2021: What does BLP look like in action at Red Oaks?

Here are our Year 5s showing great COLLABORATION skills by working together to play Team Tag! They also needed to use their WATCHING and LISTENING skills so that they knew what to do as well as NOTICING where their 'prey' was to catch! Once caught, the children relied on their class mates' EMPATHY and KINDNESS to release them by ducking under their outstretched arms. View the video here

Look at these Year 5s COLLABORATING and MAKING LINKS with previous learning. They're MANAGING DISTRACTIONS too and they’re totally ABSORBED in their work.

These Year 5 pupils are being so RESOURCEFUL and showing great PERSEVERANCE in order to complete these Science activities. What great COLLABORATION they're showing along side CAPITALISING on this learning opportunity.
