Mrs Egerton
SBI Manager

Mrs Egerton is highly qualified in British Sign Language (BSL), completing level 1, 2, 3 & 6. She has worked at Red Oaks Primary School since 2008 after completing her BTEC in Early Years. Starting as a Teaching Assistant she then went on to join the SBI team (SRP) in 2014. Becoming a Higher-Level Communication Support Worker allowed her to broaden her knowledge of supporting deaf children in a mainstream school. She has recently become the Sign Bilingual Inclusion manager at Red Oaks. Mrs Egerton’s special interest is in Visual Phonics and how we can support our deaf children in their reading and writing.
Mrs Johnston
Teacher of the Deaf

Mrs Johnston has been a Teacher of the Deaf at Red Oaks since 2018 and completed the Teacher of the Deaf Postgraduate in 2020. She has been involved with the deaf community since her early teens and completed a BA (hons) in BSL/English Interpreting (minor Special Needs) and a PGCE in Early Years. Mrs Johnston has been working as a teacher for over 15 years working in a variety of settings such as Special Education Needs schools, Primary schools and as a mainstream nurture room teacher. Mrs Johnston's special interest is in Shape Coding and making English visually accessible to the deaf children.
